K:A LEISURE - UNDER STARTERS ORDERS FOR 2014 COMMONWEALTH GAMES
K:A Leisure has won support from Events Scotland to launch an inaugural North Ayrshire Community Sports Event in October 2010 as part of a national programme of events marking the handover of the Commonwealth Games Flag from Delhi to Glasgow.
The 2014 Commonwealth Games to be held in Glasgow will include teams from 71 countries with more than 6,500 athletes and officials across 17 sports providing a unique opportunity for communities across Scotland to achieve a lasting legacy from the Games.
The Event Scotland initiative, with £320,000 funding from the Scottish Government, has identified a programme of events extending across all Scotland’s 32 local authorities including North Ayrshire to support the lead up to the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games and the Handover Ceremony at this year’s Delhi Commonwealth Games,
K:A Leisure are promoting the North Ayrshire Event and, working with its partners, have pledged to promote a lasting legacy from the Games through developing a programme encouraging ‘Everybody in North Ayrshire to be Active, Involved, Inspired’ to take-up, or take part more often, in physical activity and sport.
A series of taster sessions in selected Commonwealth Games sports including hockey, rugby sevens and a 5K race will be held at K:A Campus St Matthew’s on 7th to 9th October 2010. The ‘North Ayrshire Community Games’ will also feature a primary school athletics competition, a 1K fun run and a 5K race to encourage all the community in North Ayrshire to become involved in the celebration of the Commonwealth Games, which will be the biggest ever sporting event to take place on Scottish soil! On top of all this there will be a range of activities for families and young children.
