Local Disabled Bowlers Win Honours at Scottish National Championships

A Team of 12 Disabled Bowlers from North Ayrshire Sports Association for the Disabled (NASAD) travelled to Aberdeen to take part in the Scottish Disability Sport (SDS) National Disabled Bowling Championships on Saturday 4th September, at the Westburn Park Bowling Greens.

NASAD’s team and the association are supported by K:A Leisure’s Sports Development Officer Stephen Browning, and have trained together every Thursday over the summer months at Irvine Park Bowling Green to prepare for these prestigious National Championships. The four wheelchair users of the team greatly benefited from training over the summer in their new ‘Bradshaw Buggies’, which are specialized bowling wheelchairs which were purchased through an ‘Awards for All Scotland’ Lottery grant.  Peter Orr went on to win the Gold Medal in the Wheelchair section after knocking out fellow teammate James Brown in the semi-finals and Shirley Ann Harris took the Silver Medal in the Ladies Ambulant & B3 section.
