Commemorative Plaque Unveiling at Engine House
ARDROSSAN ROTARY CLUB AND K:A LEISURE
Auchenharvie Golf Course

Often mistaken for an ancient keep, the ruins on Auchenharvie Golf Course are actually what remains of a structure built in 1719 to house a steam-beam engine, an innovative piece of machinery in its day which was used to keep the local coal workings free of water, this being one of only two such engines to be built in Scotland.

The beam-engine house is now a listed building and to commemorate its historical importance, the Ardrossan Rotary Club purchased and had inscribed a plaque which was subsequently installed on the course by K:A Leisure.  The plaque was unveiled on Friday 9th October 2009 by Ian Blair of the Ardrossan Rotary Club, together with Lorne Campbell, K:A Leisure’s Business Development Manager.
