Swimming Development Programme

The Swimming Development programme offers a variety of activities for all age groups - from swimming camps for children during the school holidays to local competition events there is something for all. The programme also offers a swimming lessons programme and a school swimming project - as well as support to local clubs in the area in an effort to take swimming forward in North Ayrshire.

Our Swim 1:1 or 1:2 lessons are ideal for both children and adults alike with qualified instructors dedicated specifically for your needs – whether you simply need a bit of practice, technique support, nervous in the water or prefer to learn in small groups our 1:1 or 1:2 lessons can help you.

North Ayrshire has a well-established pathway for young swimmers, linking into the Scottish Swimming National Development Pathway.

School Holiday Coaching Camp

“Swim Camp” programme operates at Easter and Summer School Holiday periods. It provides the opportunity for girls and boys aged 8 years and over who are competent swimmers who would like to improve their existing technique and swimming skills.

The course includes flexibility, stroke technique, starts and turns. We aim to make this a fun learning experience to complement your aquatic skills.

All swimmers are expected to be able to swim 100m (4 lengths) continuously using at least 2 different strokes.

Rugby Development Programme (SRU)

Development of Rugby within North Ayrshire is organised locally by Scottish Rugby in partnership with the three local clubs of: Ardrossan, Garnock and Irvine through their community programmes within their respective areas.

This allows young players of all ages and ability to take part in various activity sessions, rugby festivals, specific coaching sessions, school rugby and games. This comprehensive programme covers sessions within the local community and club settings to assist in the overall development of players at all levels from mini players through to midi and beyond, working towards a clear player development pathway.

KA Leisure is currently working in conjunction with Scottish Rugby & North Ayrshire Council to provide opportunities for the development of Rugby through Rugby Development Officers attached to Ardrossan & Garnock Rugby Clubs. 

These Development Officers will greatly enhance the opportunities to participate within rugby throughout North Ayrshire via the New Schools of Rugby at Ardrossan & Garnock along with the clubs community programmes.

Gymnastics Development Programme

It’s FAB and it’s FUNKY…and it’s for YOU!!

Gymnastics is a great sport for kids, developing fitness, strength, flexibility, co-ordination, balance and physical confidence. And if you're a little older, amaze yourself with what you can do and how much better you feel for just that one session a week!

Come along and give it a go – one of our classes is sure to fit the bill. Via direct provision, we cater for pre-school children from 3 months to 5 years, while for children aged 5-16 years and for adults, we link with programmes provided by North Ayrshire clubs. All sessions are led by qualified and experienced sports coaches.

Pre-School Movement and Learning

KA Leisure’s Pre-School Programme incorporates Fit Ayrshire Babies classes for babies and very young children from 3 months to 3 years of age, and Mini-Movers for children of 3-5 years. Classes are structured to include music, singing, use of small hand apparatus (balls, bean bags etc.), and free physical play. For FAB classes, children are accompanied by their parent or carer for the duration of the class, while for Mini-Movers, children are unaccompanied. At this level, children attend one 45-minute class per week.

Recreational Gymnastics - Primary 1-7

What better way to improve the balance and co-ordination of your child, in a safe, stimulating and protected environment. Watch your child grow in confidence as they interact with others their own age and explore movements that are fundamental to their ongoing growth and development.

Nurturing Excellence

The Nurturing Excellence Programme is a partnership initiative endorsed by sportscotland and brings together North Ayrshire Council, KA Leisure, Maximum Potential Health CIC and National Sports Training Centre Inverclyde.  The programme aims to compliment the athlete’s existing training programmes with a range of specific benefits to assist athletes achieve their full sporting potential.
Athletes joining the Nurturing Excellence Programme will be able to demonstrate high levels of sporting performance and achievement or demonstrate potential and commitment to achieve success in their chosen sporting discipline.
